Vitamin D acts as a precursor to one of the hormones involved in maintaining calcium haemostasis by varying the proportions that are absorbed and excreted. This therefore, promotes normal bone mineralisation. The presence of vitamin D supports lymphocytes and monocytes, the white blood cells that fight against bacteria as part of the immune system.
